Poker Wife wins first Poker Dome tournament
Rhowena Colclough, wife of the famous UK poker pro Dave Colclough, won the inaugural Poker Dome Challenge tournament at the Tropicana Hotel Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday.
In the first of the 43-week Poker Dome series the model and poker TV presenter beat five other contestants in front of a live audience to win the heat. It was Rhowena Colclough’s first ever live tournament, and the win was worth $25,000 and a seat to the $50,000 semi-finals.
Playing inside the specially designed poker arena players are separated from the live audience by a sound-proof one-way mirrored glass dome fitted with microphones and cameras. The watching audience can hear and see the players inside the dome along with each players hole cards. The action follows a speed poker format, with players allowed a maximum 15 seconds to make their play on each hand.
In this inaugural Poker Dome tournament Ms Colclough was up against Paul Dreyer, a Californian mathematician; Jonathon Sullivan, a poker consultant; Brian Wilson, who won the 2005 WSOP $5000 Pot-Limit Hold’em tournament, Peter Lawler, a television director, and Frank Lacava, a restaurant owner.
She triumphed after defeating Jonathon Sullivan in the heads-up stage. She will now be hoping to take her good form right the way through to the final, when competitors will play off for the $1 million first prize.
