Student clears debts after becoming VC’s ‘King of Poker’
A 21-year-old student from Chester has won the VC ‘King of Poker’ tournament in his first ever attempt at a live event.

Simon Pettet, a third-year maths student from the University of Chester, was playing in his first ever live tournament when he won the VC ‘King of Poker’ title and the £5000 first prize, enough to clear his student debts in one fell swoop.

Pettet only began playing poker in 2005 after a friend of his introduced him to Chester University’s poker society.

Despite coming from a deeply religious family that are strongly opposed to gambling Pettet says his mother now “loves it” after she realised that he wasn’t really gambling.
