CBS debuts Intercontinental Poker Championship (IPC)
If you’ve got access to American television channels you should make it your aim to watch CBS this weekend, and the television debut of the IPC.
Featuring 21 of the world’s greatest poker players in a unique format that has rarely been on television before this is a truly landmark tournament.
Adding extra spice to an already hot tournament is the fact that competitors are drawn from a multitude of countries, injecting a bit of national pride into proceedings.
Of those on show will be Doyle Brunson (USA), Daniel Negreanu (Can), Dave “The DevilFish” Ulliot (Eng), Tony G (Aus), Johnny Chan (Chi), Humberto Brenes (Costa Rica), Sam Farha (Lebanon), and Carlos Mortensen (Spain). That’s a group not shy of a few WSOP bracelets.
The tournament format involves splitting the players up into three tables of seven players, with each table playing a sit-n-go style tournament. The winner of each table will go on to the semi-finals, with the three remaining groups of 6 players playing another sit-n-go game with the winners again advancing to the next stage. The idea is to allow true class to shine through, so players who are victims of bad beats in the first tournament have a chance to redeem themselves.
