WSOP Update: Mark Vos pips Nam Le to win Event #7
The highest payout of the 2006 World Series of poker came yesterday in Event #7, the $2000 NL Hold’em tournament, and once again there were some old heads fighting for the top spot.

Carlos Mortensen experienced a bit of déjà vu when he finished in ninth for the second time so far this series, and although he will have been disappointed to be the first player nudged off the final table again, two final table finishes inside six events is a remarkable achievement. Clearly the 2001 world champion is in form; look out for the matador being a possible star of the series.

But it was Nam Le who proved the most successful of the big names on this occasion. The former WPT winner found himself with a chip lead with just one player to beat, and looked odds on to win his first WSOP bracelet.

Sadly for Le it wasn’t to be, as during a one-hour-and-a-half heads-up battle the tenacious Aussie Mark Vos gradually assumed the chip lead and then delivered the fatal blow, sucking Le into calling an all-in on the river with an inferior hand.

And with that Vos had won $803,274 – the biggest payout in the World Series so far. Le won $401,647 for second place.
