PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) starts tomorrow
Yes, it's that time of the year again. The annual PokerStars WCOOP starts tomorrow with over $10,000,000 in total prize money, guaranteed, up for grabs.

The 2006 line-up will feature 18 events (four of them with a $1 million guaranteed pot) taking place over 16 days. There is a decent mix of games with a Razz tournament, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo and H.O.R.S.E to go along with the usual Hold’em events.

Unusually for online poker the most expensive buy-in comes in the H.O.R.S.E event, mirroring the 2006 WSOP where the $50,000 buy-in was the most expensive of any event in WSOP history. PokerStars have kept the buy-in a little more modest, at $5,200.

PokerStars should be commended for taking note of the recent criticisms of the WSOP where the prevalence of Hold’em events was displeasing to numerous players. Of the 18 events in the WCOOP just three are strict NL Hold’em freezeouts.

The main-event first spot paid out over $550,000 last year and over $400,000 the year before. This year the top prize is sure to pay out over $600,000, which will be the biggest prize in online poker history.
