Alex Jacob wins US Poker Championship
One of the youngest sensations on the poker circuit, Alex Jacob, won his first major event this week when he beat all-comers at the US Poker Championship’s $10,000 buy-in main event.

The 21-year-old economics and maths major from Yale University first made his mark on the live poker world in April this year, storming on the collective conscious by making the final table at Foxwoods WPT World Poker Finals, where he finished second to Victor Ramdin and picked up $655,507.

There followed further success for Jacob, known online as “Yahtzem”, as he cashed four times at this years WSOP, making two final tables in the process and collecting a total of $130,793.

To win the US Poker Championship and the $878,500 first prize Jacob had to overcome a field of 291, significantly smaller than the fields for most WSOP events he played in, but a major challenge all the same.

Jacob was formidable throughout, but came into his own on the final table. Starting third in chips he quickly doubled through chip leader and fellow Internet sensation Jordan “iMsoLucky0” Morgan when he flopped the nut straight with T-9. He then moved into the outright lead after he raked a monster pot off chip leader Michael DeMichele when he moved all-in over-the-top of a $600,000 re-raise on the flop, forcing DeMichele to fold.

At that point there were just three players left, and Jacob took no time wrapping up his victory, eliminating Michael DeMichele in third place to take a 6:1 chip lead into the heads-up battle with Jordan Morgan. The battle of the Internet legends lasted just one hand, with Jordan Morgan finding KQ and raising to $75k only for Jacob to move all-in over the top with A5. Morgan called but an ace on the flop spelt the end of his tournament. He picked up $405,072 for second place.
