Amarillo Slim in attempted armed robbery
Hold the press, there’s another chapter to be added to the life story of the legendary Thomas “Amarillo Slim” Preston, because though he may be 78 his adventures appear far from over. In the early hours of Wednesday morning Slim reportedly escaped from an attempted armed robbery, apparently unscathed.

According to the Amarillo Globe News, Slim was fortunate to escape alive when a yellow vehicle forced Slim’s car off the road and onto the curb. The police report says the attacker climbed out of his car, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash from the legendary poker player.

As an ex-Texas Rounder the septuagenarian Slim has had more than his fair share of guns pulled on him in his time, and this time his heart didn’t skip a beat as instincts took over. Slim instantly threw his car into reverse and put pedal to the metal, screeching away as his assailant fired three shots, two of which hit Slim’s car. The police report goes on to state that the robber then jumped back into his own vehicle and chased Slim for a few minutes before the 78 year old gave him the slip and called the police.

Sound like a scene from a movie? Well in a few years time that’s most likely what it will be, with the movie “Amarillo Slim,” starring Nicolas Cage, currently in the pre-production stages. If the film comes anything close to the excitement of Slim’s life (or Slim’s stories of his life) then it will definitely be worth watching.
