PokerStars.com to stay in US market, so too NETeller
In a press release that will have warmed the souls of internet poker players from New York to L.A., PokerStars.com, the second biggest online poker room worldwide (though now probably the biggest) has confirmed it will stay in the US market.
PokerStars had delayed its decision about the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIBEA) while its lawyers carefully examined the reach and implications of the act. It appears they have now come to a conclusion.
“Poker Stars has received extensive expert advice from within and outside the U.S. which concluded that these provisions do not alter the U.S. legal situation with respect to our offering of online poker games.
Therefore, our business continues as before - open to players worldwide including the US. You may play on our site as you did prior to the Act.”
The news from PokerStars made it a particularly good 24 hours for US online poker players as it came on the back of a similar statement by the online e-wallet company NETeller:
“We are staying in the US. I don’t think we have a problem,” said Bruce Elliot, vice president of sale and marketing for NETeller.
As time goes by since the passing of the UIGEA it appears the bill may have less damaging implications than many feared. The US authorities may yet react in a way that changes all that, once the bill is signed into law, but for the meantime things are looking up.
Whichpoker will be keep you fully up to date on all further UIGEA related news.
