Yet another record broken on PokerStars
No-one can quite be sure what the future holds for PokerStars.com, but if it in any way resembles the bounty of the last few weeks they really ought to start shopping for Senator Bill Frist’s Christmas present.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), while it may yet prove a problem for PokerStars.com, has initially been a quite extraordinary gift for Isai Scheinberg and PokerStars’ other owners.

The Sunday before last PokerStars logged its highest ever attendance for the weekly Sunday $1 million guaranteed tournament; the Sunday just gone it was even higher! It just goes to show, American online poker players are clearly not taking any notice of the supposed change in laws. If they can find a way to play, they will play, and how!

6413 players turned out for last Sunday’s event, with the $200 buy-in creating a $1,282,600 prize pool and a $183,411 first prize.

The first prize finally went to ‘Osten87’, but not before a deal had been left with three players remaining that shows just how financially sensible deals can be.

With three players left there was a clear chip leader in ‘Halkeye’ with $33 million in chips, a clear middle man in ‘lteopepe88’ with $23 million, and a clear short stack in Osten87 with just $8 million. The players talked and finally settled on a deal that gave Halkeye the largest chunk of the pie with $124k, and left $32k to play for.

Osten87 began to build momentum almost as soon as the deal talks were resolved, and quickly built up to $22 million before clashing with Halkeye in a title deciding pot. Both players got their money in the middle on the 7-T-4 flop. Halkeye was in the lead with Q-7 for a pair of sevens, but Osten87 caught an ace on the turn to pair his AK and that was enough to win the $44 million pot.

Osten87 then busted the two remaining players in quick succession to take the title and the $32k extra left over from the deal.

Final table positions and payouts:

1st osten87 $103,318 (after deal)
2nd Halkeye $124,397 (after deal)
3rd lteopepe88 $104,735 (after deal)
4th lexx0170 $45,917
5th jmikekennedy $36,810
6th hartwith $29,756
7th Jmaxime $23,086
8th win532 $16,673
9th mikem1181 $11,030
