Online pro scoops first live tournament at the WSOP Indiana
A 25-year-old online sensation broke into the live tournament arena on Saturday with a win in the $5000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em WSOP Circuit event in Indiana.

Chad Batista overcame a field of 169 players to take home the first prize of $262,002 along with a WSOPC ring and entry into the 2007 WSOP main-event.

Batista was a relative unknown coming into the WSOPC Indiana event, though those in the online community will know “LilHoldem954” or “M8kinmoves” for his prodigious tournament record on the virtual felt: Batista once won two PartyPoker Million dollar guaranteed inside one month.

This was only the second bricks-and-mortar event that Batista had ever played, the first being a preliminary event in the same casino just a few days before. But the online pro showed that internet skills are easily translatable, and he went on to take first spot after coming from a long way behind in his heads-up battle against Hoyt Lance.

Batista started out massively out chipped by Lance, but doubled up with K-8 versus Q-9 and then again with 6-6 v As-3s. Lance then escaped further punishment when he checked the river when Batista was trying to check raise him with a turned set of jacks, but then doubled Batista up for a third time after moving all-in with J-4 on a 4-T-7 flop. Batista had Q-T and made a relatively straightforward call to finally take over the chip lead.

The final hand came when Batista already had a huge chip lead over Lance. He moved all-in with Qc-4c and Lance called with K-9o. The board came A-2-3-3-5 and Batista hit a wheel for the title. Congratulations Chad! Lance took $137,471 for second place.
