David Daneshgar and Jay Glazer collect WPC rings as momentum gathers towards main-event
David Daneshgar (in the $5,000 NL Hold’em) and Jay Glazer (in the $1,500 NL Hold’em) were the latest champions in the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, as the preliminary events of the WPC gathered momentum towards the $15,000 main-event.

The $5000 NL Hold’em tournament saw a slight reduction in player numbers as the higher buy-in took its toll on the field, but 175 entries still meant a sizeable prize pool of nearly $1 million and a first place prize for Daneshgar of $330,105. Daneshgar is clearly running hot this year as this was his third victory and his fifth six-figure payout of 2006, moving the Californian into fourth place in the Player of the Year race.

The less experienced Jay Glazer had to overcome a much bigger field of 512 players on the way to his capturing his first tournament victory, for which he collected $244,395. He also had to overcome a tricky final table that included the three time WSOP bracelet winner Fred Bonyadi, but Glazer, from Mercer Island in Washington, was up to the task.

There are now just five events to go before the $15,000 buy-in Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic kicks off, and all the evidence points to a booming turnout for the last WPT event before Christmas.
