WPC: Pro’s jam the top of the leaderboard
What a great start it has been to the 2006 Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio! And we still have the main-event to come! So far every preliminary event has featured a final table packed with WPT and WSOP winners, and it looks as if the $5000 event will be no exception.

19 players remain going into the final day and the top five chip leaders are all superstar poker players. In order of chip counts they include WPT winner Joe Tehan, multiple WSOP bracelet winner Erik Seidel, the 2005 WSOP main-event third place finisher John “Tex” Barch, the 2006 Bellagio Cup II main-event winner and Player of the Year contender Shannon Shorr, and from the UK, the WPT and WSOP winner John Gale.

No doubt there will be another huge crowd present to watch the action, most likely including Michael Binge, the 2006 WSOP main-event third place finisher, who would be cheering on his brother Nick, who starts the day in sixth position.

The player with most to play for here is Shannon Shorr, who’s currently lying fifth in the Player of the Year standings and is still within reach, if only just, of the current leader Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi. He heads into the final day in fourth place with $145,000 chips, but is some way behind the chip leader Joe Tehan, who starts with $523,000. A win here would put Shorr within 500 points of Mizrachi with just over two weeks to go before the contest is decided.
