Big names pitch up for High Stakes Poker season 3
Possibly the most eagerly awaited poker show of recent years, Season III of GSN’s High Stakes Poker, will hit American television screens in the very near future and the word is that this may be the best show yet.
A host of new names have been drafted in to join such veterans from the previous as Jennifer Harman, Daniel Negreanu and Mike Matusow, with the biggest draw being 2006 WSOP champion Jamie Gold. Here’s his chance to prove to all those that said he was lucky that he deserves the title of poker World Champion.
The format of HSP, for those that don’t know, is No-Limit Texas Hold’em with a minimum $100,000 buy-in. The stakes are $300-$600 with a $100 rolling ante and there is no limit to the amount players can bring to the table (in season one Daniel Negreanu took full advantage of this and sat down with $1 million).
Season 3 has a more youthful look than the previous two seasons, with the addition of Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey and Paul Wasicka (the runner up in the 2006 WSOP) joining the stars from seasons one and two. Commentator Gabe Kaplan also tries his hand at the felt.
According to Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu, who wrote about HSP Season 3 in his blog, the new additions have greatly increased the difficulty of the game, with Patrik Antonius cited as an particularly tricky opponent.
