Aussie Millions Main Event: 80 players remain
The Aussie Millions main-event traditionally attracts one of the biggest non-WSOP fields of the year. 2007 proved no exception with a whopping 747 entrants including, not suprisingly, some of the biggest names in world poker.

Day One was split into two days with a total of 299 players meeting up yesterday for the start of Day Two. While some of the biggest names in the draw such as Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey crashed out before the end of the day there are still plenty of superstars well in the hunt for the title as Day Three begins.

Leading the pack with $634,500 chips is Haralabos Voulgaris, a player with a lower profile than some of his peers but just as much ability, as his second place in the 2005 WPT LA Poker Classic proves.

Looking extremely dangerous in second place with $562,500 chips is Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen, closely followed by the Internet prodigy Jimmy “Gobboboy” Fricke. The top ten also includes Andy Black (6th) and 2006 WSOP runner-up Paul Wasicka, who is beginning to back up his WSOP performance with a series of strong showings.

One of the big talking points of the day was the performance of Patrik Antonius, who is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the world’s best players, on a par with Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu no less. The stylish Finn was sailing along when he clashed with last year’s winner Lee Nelson, and lost a huge pot when Nelson caught his flush draw to beat Antonius’s pocket jacks.

The normally cool-headed Antonius took the beat badly and even though he still had way over one hundred thousand in chips he went on tilt and managed to fall down to below $3000. His tournament appeared over but Antonius is more adept than most a building a stack at speed and he set about his new challenge with relish, quadrupling up twice to $60,000, then doubling up through Lee Nelson, before busting Barny Boatman and ending the day with over $270k in a phenomenal comeback.

Another big name making big moves was the home favourite and 2005 WSOP champion Joe Hachem. Like the other pro’s in the field Hachem used the bubble to bully players and build his stack, ending the day with around $275k in chips. Among the other big names to make it to Day Three were David “The Dragon” Pham, Ross Boatman from the Hendon Mob, Lee Nelson, Kirill Gerasimov, Shane “Shaniac” Schleger and many more.

Action resumes at 12:30pm Melbourne time.
