Bodog drops Jamie Gold sponsorship
Jamie Gold, the 2006 WSOP main-event champion, has been dropped by Bodog just six months after winning the biggest poker tournament in history, it was revealed yesterday.
Despite speculation to the contrary, Bodog have claimed the decision to drop Gold has nothing to do with the Bruce Leyser lawsuit or Jamie Gold’s apparent lack of popularity among grassroots poker fans. Instead Bodog has pointed to its decision to terminate all non-internet based advertising as the reason behind Gold’s sponsorship contract being ended.
The statement read: “In light of our decision to cease all offline marketing initiatives in the U.S., and instead refocus our efforts on growing our entertainment brand in Europe and Asia, Bodog has ended our business relationship with Jamie Gold. Bodog has enjoyed our association with Mr. Gold and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
It seems strange then that Bodog have maintained their sponsorship of Josh Arieh, David Williams and Evelyn Ng. Meanwhile Jamie Gold becomes the first WSOP main-event champion in the new millennium not to have a sponsorship deal, and that includes Robert Varkoyni.
