Over the past six months J.C. Tran has been on the kind of run that most pro players will not experience in a lifetime; a $670,000 win at the World Championship of Online Poker (the biggest prize in the history of online poker), three six-figure wins in various WPT preliminary tournaments, and three WPT final tables including a WPT main-event win since October 2006 has netted him over $3.6 million, and will go down as one of the greatest runs ever seen in tournament poker.
In 2007 alone JC made three consecutive WPT final tables, finishing sixth in the WPT Gold Strike World Poker Open, second in the WPT La Poker Classic (for over $1.15 million), and winning the WPT World Poker Challenge in Reno, an astonishing run of results that helped him to win the title of “WPT Player of the Year” for season 5, joining former winners Howard Lederer, Erick Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu, and Gavin Smith.
The award could have no more deserving winner. JC is not just an amazingly gifted poker player, he is also a man truly dedicated to achieving greatness in the game. His win in Reno was the culmination of years of hard work and devotion; he ranks it as his greatest moment in poker, despite having won more money in other tournaments.
Tran is currently in line for another award, the one most coveted by tournament players around the world – CardPlayer’s Player of the Year title. His flying start to 2007 has put him miles ahead of the chasing pack, and you won’t find too many punters willing to bet against him being at the top at the end of 2007. Good luck to him!
