The opening of what will be Europe’s biggest card club was delayed last week after casino operators in Nottingham objected to its licence.
After already having delayed its opening by several months due to a variety of problems, Dusk Till Dawn will now have to wait till September to welcome the poker playing public after objections from three casino operators.
The casinos, two of which have not even opened yet, objected to the Nottingham card room on the grounds that there was not enough demand in the city. They took their complaints to a Nottingham Magistrates Court where Dusk Till Dawn was denied a license despite assurances from MD Rob Young that the club has already had more than 3000 applications.
Dusk Till Dawn has been under development since April 2005 and is set to be Europe’s largest poker club at 21,000 sq. ft. with a capacity of 500 players.
Due to open in November 2006 the club has suffered a series of setbacks that have left a significant hole in its bank balance.
“We have recruited all of the key staff and the premises are ready,” said Young, “but each month that we are delayed will cost a further £100,000 in wages and running costs.”
You don’t need an A-Level in maths to work out that this latest delay will cost Dusk Till Dawn close to half a million pounds. Nevertheless Rob Young was not perturbed, saying: “I have never made anyone redundant in my life and I am committed to seeing this through.”
Good luck to him.
