The final table of the $5000 Pot-Limit Omaha with rebuys tournament is one of the few World Series tables that is almost guaranteed to be packed with pro players. That’s because the re-buy format tends to prohibit amateurs from taking a shot, and its Omaha; a favourite game of the pros.
This year was no different; between them the small field of 145 players accumulated 421 rebuys, more than tripling the prizepool and helping to rack up an $800,000+ first prize, the biggest of the 2007 WSOP so far.
With the rebuy period over the field began to thin, and when the dust had settled we were left with an intriguing final table, headed up by the ever dangerous Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot. Competing with him for the coveted bracelet would be Canadian pro Eric Cajelais, along with John Juanda, Robin Keston, Humberto Brenes, Minh Ly, Larry Johnson, Sirous Jamshidi and Burt Boutin.
Devilfish started the final table as he left off, knocking out Humberto Brenes in eighth place and looking as dangerous as ever. But then things fell apart for Ulliot as he doubled-up Burt Boutin twice in quick succession, the second time falling victim to a particularly bad beat after Boutin made a very loose all-in call.
Down from over $2 million to just under $200,000 in chips the Devilfish went on the offensive, doubling up three times in no time at all to give himself a shot at the bracelet once more. The problem was that Eric Cajelais and Burt Boutin were busy knocking out the remaining players and building their chip stacks, such that by the time it got three handed Devilfish had just $900,000 chips while the other two both had over $2 million.
Nevertheless that could easily be reversed, and it very nearly was when Ulliot got it all-in as a commanding 66-31 favourite over Eric Cajelais, but was unable to hold his advantage as the turn and river went in Cajelais’ favour.
That left Cajelais heads-up with the excitable Boutin, who as ever, had had a few too many Redbulls and was struggling to sit still.
Luckily for Boutin he didn’t have to, as on just the second hand of the heads-up stage he put the tournament almost beyond Cajelais’ reach. Both players got it all-in on the flop, with Cajelais holding middle set and Boutin hoping to complete his nut flush draw. Sure enough the flush came on the turn, and five hands later Boutin scooped up Cajelais’ remaining chips to win the tournament and claim his second WSOP bracelet.
The results for the final table were as follows:
1st – Burt Boutin - $825,956
