Graphics

Pacific Poker’s graphics are fairly basic. There are no avatars (player figures), instead there are merely boxes with player’s names in – making the table rather monotonous to look at. Although it is simple and effective, it is not exactly pretty.

Playability

Table
People don’t play at Pacific Poker for the quality of its software, but for the supposedly easy money and loose games. The software is decidedly average, and game play can be frustrating as a result. For example: the lack of a game play window (detailing player actions) means you cannot check back to see how much a player raised by before the flop, or indeed who it was who raised in the first place. However, Pacific has been working hard to improve its software; recent developments include a feature allowing note taking on opponents, along with long awaited hand history statistics. And at last Pacific have added multi-tabling software enabling players to play up to five tables simultaneously. It’s been a long time coming but its arrival should herald a new era for Pacific.

Lobby
Pacific’s lobby is also improving but it still has some way to go. Recent software updates added view flop percentages for tables (a very useful stat in determining where the loose games are) as well as hands per hour and average pot size. But there are still problems. For example, if you click on a table in the lobby and then scroll further down, the screen keeps flipping back to the table you clicked on – a maddening design flaw. Still, improvements are on their way.

Player Numbers

Ring
Excellent. Pacific Poker has a huge player base and traffic is increasing all the time. Currently the site has over 2000 ring players at peak times.

Tournament
Again, excellent. Pacific Poker has some of the busiest tournament tables on the net. With over 57,000 real-money tournament players active at peak times (the third biggest on the net) you will rarely have to wait long for a table to fill up here.

Game Variety

Pacific Poker offers Texas Hold’em. Omaha High. Omaha High/Low. Seven Card Stud. Seven Card Stud High/Low. This is a reasonable spread of games but Pacific Poker is let down because it only offers fixed-limit games for all games except Texas Hold’em. There isn’t even pot-limit Omaha!

Rake

Pacific Poker’s rake is better than most. because unlike most sites they don’t tax the lower limits too hard. At low limits (below $1/$2) there is a maximum rake of $1. which is pretty decent value. However on the very high limit tables the rake is less attractive. as at $4 maximum it is $1 more than the industry average.

Special Tournaments

Pacific Poker runs lots of daily freerolls. they have weekly $50.000 and $25.000 guaranteed pot tournaments and weekly qualifiers for the 2006 WSOP.

Loyalty
Pacific runs an invite-a-friend scheme. where a bonus of $50 is paid for each friend you send their way. They also have a bonus points system. which allows for bonus points to be converted to real money. although it is not of great value to low limit players (every $10 bet in raked hands earns 1 bonus point; you need 100 bonus points to claim $1 – meaning to collect $1 dollar you need to have wagered over $1000.)
