Graphics

Excellent. PokerRoom’s graphics are some of the best around. with rich colours and nicely designed avatars (player figures). Overall the table graphic on pokerroom.com bears the greatest resemblance to a real table of any site we have come across. allowing for the most authentic playing experience.

Playability

Table
PokerRoom’s software feels like it has been designed by someone that plays poker. There are of course problems. (most complaints seem to focus on the fast speed of timeouts and the small pre-select buttons) but the good features far out way the bad.

Of the many great touches. one of our favourites is the display of win percentages for all players in all-in situations. which changes as the community cards are dealt out. PokerRoom’s player notes feature is also very well designed. allowing you to designate different symbols to different players. These symbols appear next to the avatar of any player you have made notes on when he sits at the table – helping you to get instant information on players as they sit down. Not only that. but the symbols also appear in the lobby next to the tables. helping you to tell which table the fish are sat at!

Lobby
The lobby on PokerRoom is also very good. It is clearly laid out and has separate tabs for all games. including separate tabs for fixed limit and no-limit games. Stats for each table’s average pot. hands per hour. and players per flop are displayed – though you must select each table separately to see these figures (a little advice: search by clicking on a table and then using the up down cursor keys.) PokerRoom has some of the most extensive game play stats of all the online poker rooms. presented both as a session summary and a total summary for your play. Not only are you given general statistics for hands won/lost. but you can also see stats for specific tables at specific times. along with stats such as “win/loss per hour”. “average big bets per hand”. and percentages such as “folded to a river bet”. (They are located under the toolbar in the statistics section.)

Player Numbers

Ring
As one of the top four online poker rooms. PokerRoom has the high traffic you would expect. with real-money numbers often peaking at over 3500. And recently PokerRoom has seen many more players at its big money tables.

Tournament
PokerRoom’s tournament traffic is even better. with real-money player numbers often hitting over the 12.000 mark!

Game Variety

Texas Hold’em. Omaha High. Omaha High/Low. Five Card Draw. Seven Card Stud and head-to-head tables. This probably counts as an average selection. better than many. though not quite as good as some other sites which offer the less common poker games such as Pineapple.

Rake

PokerRoom’s rake is about the industry average – with a maximum rake of $3.

Special Tournaments

PokerRoom has a good selection of special tournaments. although as yet it still lacks a flagship tournament of the magnitude of the PartyPoker Million or the PokerStars Caribbean tournament. Nonetheless PokerRoom runs a Shark Cage beginners tournament. WPT qualifiers. WSOP qualifiers. a plethora of Guaranteed Pot tournaments and Free Rolls (min 3 free rolls per day). and random one offs such as the ‘Become a Poker Pro’ tournament. which offered the chance to become a sponsored pro with paid entry into $240.000 worth of tournaments. That’s not a bad selection!

Promotions / Bonuses

Sign-up
First deposit bonus of 50 percent up to $250. The deposit bonus is earned by collecting player points (7 player points equate to $1.)

Loyalty
PokerRoom’s Player Points system is a good way of getting some extra perks. You pick up player points simply by playing in raked hands; they can be converted into cash or they can be used to buy tickets into tournaments. PokerRoom player points tables. whereby the highest 5 daily player point’s earners split $1000. PokerRoom runs a refer-a-friend scheme – get $50 for each friend you refer to the site (the friend gets $25.)
